Trunnion Mounted V-Port Control Ball Valve — Product Technical Data Sheet
Product Name: Trunnion Mounted V-Port Control Ball Valve
The trunnion mounted V-port control ball valve is a quarter-turn rotary control valve featuring a trunnion-supported ball design. The ball is fixed on upper and lower stems with bearing supports, providing excellent stability, low operating torque, and high pressure bearing capacity. The V-notch on the ball offers an inherent flow characteristic close to equal percentage and a rangeability up to 300:1.
This design is ideal for large bore sizes, high differential pressure, high cycle operation, and demanding services including abrasive, viscous, or fibrous media. The trunnion construction eliminates ball deflection under pressure, ensuring long-term sealing integrity and precise control.
Same as standard V-port ball valve (see previous sheet), with additional compliance for high-pressure trunnion designs:

Component | Standard Material | High Performance Option |
Body / Bonnet | WCB, LCB, CF8, CF8M, CF3M | Duplex, Inconel, Monel |
Ball (V-port) | 17-4PH, F304, F316 | Hard chrome plated, Stellite, Tungsten carbide coating |
Trunnion bearings | PTFE + glass fiber / Nylon 6 / Metal-backed PTFE | Reinforced PEEK, Carbon graphite |
Stem | 17-4PH, F316 | Inconel 718 |
Seat rings (trunnion) | Spring-loaded floating seat with PEEK / PTFE / Metal seal | Double piston effect (DPE) seat |
Seat Type | Leakage Class | Application |
Soft seat (PTFE / PEEK) | Zero / Class VI | Clean or moderate solids, tight shut-off |
Metal seat (Stellite) | Class IV / V | High temp, abrasive, high cycle |
Double piston effect (DPE) | Bi-directional zero leakage | High pressure, bidirectional flow |
The trunnion design allows independent upstream/downstream sealing with spring-energized seats, ensuring reliable shut-off even under large pressure fluctuations.
Due to lower torque, a smaller actuator can be used compared to floating ball design. However, dynamic torque must be considered at high DP.
Actuator Type | Sizing Note |
Pneumatic (rack & pinion or scotch yoke) | Break torque = seat + bearing friction + dynamic torque |
Electric (modulating or on-off) | Use safety factor 1.3~1.5 for sticky media |
